I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m not great at putting together creative and exciting Valentine’s Day gifts. I usually do something small and simple for my kids. I write them something special on a store-bought Valentine’s Day card and give them some chocolate or a special treat. They love that and it’s easy peasy.
My husband, on the other hand…well, that’s where I can get a little stumped. Especially because he rarely eats sweets, and — as luck would have it — we often spend Valentine’s Day apart. This tends to be a busy travel time of the year for his business.
This year, I thought it would be fun to tuck a little surprise for him in to his travel bag — a little love in a mason jar!
This Valentine’s Day mason jar gift is so simple and easy. It’s also perfect for my traveling man because he likes to have snacks handy to eat on the plane or in the hotel.
I used a regular mason jar (you could also use a plastic one for durability when traveling) and filled it with peanuts (although I might switch them out for almonds because I could fit more in the jar for a longer trip).
I spray painted the ring of the lid red and added some striped fabric to the top. I affixed the fabric with a spray adhesive.
I filled the jar and attached a heart-shaped tag (found at the dollar bin at Target) with a ribbon and wrote with a chalk ink marker
.
So, so easy and I hope he’ll think it’s a fun surprise!

Love it Julie love how you painted the lid and added the burlap…very cute!
This is a great idea, I always struggle with what to give my husband. I usually focus on kids stuff like you but he’s always hard to figure out. Thanks for the idea.
Very sweet idea and I love the pun! Pinned!
Such a great idea! My husband would LOVE this.
Adorable! And much healthier than candy….
