Well, it’s been months in the making and, truthfully, I’ve had it mostly done for quite awhile now. The hold-up? DIYing the chairs. Six chairs. They almost got the better of me, but I’m happy and proud to say it’s DONE!
I was going to drag out the reveal…give it to you piece by piece and then, BAM! Give you the final reveal. But, I’m so happy it’s done I’m just doing it all in one post and then I’ll do some how-to posts and tell you where I bought stuff.
As you may recall, this was the mood board I created to give myself a road map.
I didn’t change out the chandelier as I had hoped, frankly, because of budget. Plus, my hubby likes the current chandelier. And, to be honest, the old chandelier actually looks better now with the new changes.
It’s still not my favorite though, and I really would like to a lantern or something prettier, but it will have to wait. Rome was not built in a day…or even a few months.
For now, I’m happy as a clam to have this makeover done and the chairs finished – yippee!!
So, there you have it.
I am checking this room off my to-do list!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Julie, the dining room is stunning! The chairs are gorgeous and they look absolutely perfect. I can’t even imagine how hard all of that must have been. The wall grouping is wonderful. One thing that you’ve done that I love..incorporating a little bit of Texas with the cowboy hat and the cow. I like the leather wine holder too.
Well done you Julie. This is amazing. Fresh and beautiful.
I am luving the periwinkle cabinet
Hugs, Gee
Thank, Gee! The cabinet is one of my favorite things, too!
Your dining room is beautiful. You did a fabulous job. I also like the periwinkle cabinet…
Thank you!
Gorgeous room! I love the chairs and the plate wall! Well done!
Thanks, Vickie!
Wow, Julie! Its gorgeous! I know I’ve said it before, but I just love that blue hutch so much!
Thanks, Jenna! I love the hutch, too!

Julie, your dining room is a real stunner now! Love, love, love the buffalo check on some of the chairs, the blue hutch is a beautiful color and styled so beautifully, and the plate display is fabulous! I’m looking forward to more details. Oh, and I had the same chandelier in our previous home and I always loved it!
Oh my, this is stunning. I love how your room turned out. The check fabric on the chairs is gorgeous. It give the whole room so much character. Love the plates on the wall to and your accessories are lovely. Great job, you should be proud, it really looks fabulous. I would love for you to link this up to my Inspire Me Tuesday party that is ongoing. The is definitely inspiring. http://www.astrollthrulife.net Hugs, Marty
Thank you, Marty! I’m all linked up!
Omg! This room is so stunning! I love the chairs. I hope I can learn how to reupholster as well as you one day! Like everything you do, it is the perfect balance of all the styles and tastes in your family. I really love the layered chalkboard and art pieces, and I agree that the chandelier takes on a totally different persona with the new room!
Lilly, your comments always make me feel so good! Thanks for the love, girl!
I LOVE IT! I I love the plates and display on your sideboard. Chalk board plus a print – perfect! What a great idea to have an inspiration board. It keeps your ideas organized and gives you something to go back to when you start to get frustrated or overwhelmed. Great job!
Stephanie, I have decided that inspiration boards are the way to go when redoing an entire room. You’re absolutely right…they keep you organized and on track. It also helps you see everything together so much better than just in your head! lol
Julie, it looks great! Definitely magazine-worthy. 😉 The love hutch, plates, table, chairs, Monet, and I think the chandelier looks good with all of it! Sharing on FB and pinning!
Thank you, Jen! I appreciate the social media love!
It’s so gorgeous, Julie! I love it! And you DIYed those chairs? That’s incredible!
What a beautiful room! I love the color on your walls and also the buffalo check on the chairs. Browns with some blue are my favorite colors in a room and you have outdone yourself truly. I bet you’re just happy every morning to look at it again. Diana
Simply lovely. Top to bottom, the plate wall collection is so pretty, I just adore it!
Its gorgeous Julie — you did a fantastic job! xoxo
It’s beautiful! Well done, Julie.
That is an absolutely gorgeous dining room! I just love it and the fabric on the chairs is so beautiful. The plate wall might be my favorite though. Everything about it is stunning!
Vanessa
I love how the room comes all together and love the colors! What paint color did you use? I have been looking for a good neutral brown and love the one you used!
Thank you! The paint color is called, “Weekend in the Country” and it’s by Valspar. However, I had it color-matched at Home Depot so I could use Behr’s Premium Plus paint (just personal preference).
Chic and cozy! LOVE your reveal:)
You did a fabulous job on the chairs. Love the look of the plaid on the chairs. Also the plates on the wall are stunning. Beautiful!
I love the mix matching chairs and the wall of plates. You did a great job with this!

love it! you did an awesome job on the chairs!
The chandelier looks like the one from Wayfair and I thought they were a deal! Oh–it’s not the same but check this out: http://www.wayfair.com/Great-Outdoors-by-Minka-Mossoro-4-Light-Hanging-Lantern-8268-161-MGO1790.html I was going to use the same one but the smallest is even too tall for our foyer!!! The room is beautiful. I am actually going to finally use the same buffalo check in my bedroom as 3 euros. I have carried aroung a swatch of “acorn” buffalo check from one room to another (Calico fabrics) and love it!! Where did you source the cow prints–would love to know. Thanks. Came to you from MMS today
Love the lantern from Wayfair…great price!
I think the cow prints are at art.com, but I will have to go back and check on that…
I FOUND YOU AT MISS MUSTARD SEED LAST WEEK AND YOUR BLUE CUPBOARD WAS WONDERFUL…THE DINING ROOM REVEAL IS SIMPLY SPECTACULAR!!
Thank you, Deanne!
Hi Julie, I just found you thru Kim. I adore your style, and those fabulous checked chairs, just became a new follower!
Thank you, Debra! So happy to have you as a new follower!
Julie, your dining room is beautiful! Love it all. How did you hang the plates? AND..what kind of tile did you use for the floors? I am looking at doing those things in my own home. Kudos on a beautiful and inviting room.
Thank you, Mary! I hung the plates with these little stick-on hangers I bought at Hobby Lobby. I have also ordered them from Amazon in the past. I will do a short post on them because I’ve heard other people ask questions, too and I think they’re great! The bigger platters are hung with regular wire plate hangers.
I’m not sure what my tile is…it was there when we bought the house! It is ceramic, though, I do know that. I will hunt around and see if I can find the tile name and/or brand.

You’ve inspired me! I love your “buffalo check chairs” & their slipcovers (on the two chairs). I use a pair of vintage wing chairs as host/hostess chairs (fine estate sale steals which I reupholstered to match my dining chairs – pre-Craigs List “newspaper ad” finds, I first painted and then later reupholstered). I’m going to make slipcovers for them, as well as for two of my dining chairs, so that when I move the wings to the LR for extra seating for large gatherings, I’ll throw on the dining slipcovers to keep the host/hostess look or even be able to move those dining chairs to the LR, too, if needed).
Your magnificent skill in your DIY upholstery project has also made me decide to take off the back panels of my dining chairs in order to “finish” them w/ some added piping & hobnails. Nice finishing details, Julie!!! And your check placement on each chair couldn’t have been more perfectly matched — the mark of both a person who takes pride in attention to details as well as quality craftsmanship (something you get from only the finest & most expensive workrooms — and sometimes not even from them). Your results were worth the extra time.
Your other DIY projects & styling details are worthy of pride and “bragging rights”: layering the framed painting over the framed blackboard surrounded by the charming plate arrangement; silvered side lamps; blue & white accents; perfectly painted & antiqued grandfather clock & china cabinet (contents also styled beautifully). Looking forward to further posts from you w/ details on your DIY projects & sources for all of your finds.
I’m quite excited about these ideas your lovely dining room inspired. Can’t wait to get started on my new project. THANKS, Julie!
I’m so glad you were inspired! And, thank you, for your lovely comments and compliments!
Absolutely beautiful! I came over from Met Monday and so I happy I found you!

Love love love!!! Everything from the plates, to fabrics,to cow head!:)
BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you!
Julie, it’s beautiful! Love the fabrics you chose for the chairs and that wonderful sideboard! I especially love how it feels like it just came together over time, not all matchy-matchy or over decorated. Love it all!
Thank you, Susan! You have such a beautiful home so I’m humbled by your praise! Thank you for stopping by.
I love your dining room! The checked fabric is sooo cute! Come link up your post at my party Centerpiece Wednesday http://thestylesisters.blogspot.com/2013/07/centerpiece-wednesday-85-and-wrap-up.html

This is such a pretty room! And, I think the chandelier looks great with the buffalo check chairs. I might even lower it about 10-12 inches so it picks up on those checks even more. Again, really nice touches in this room – so soft and fresh.
Oh you had me at the buffalo check chairs. That happens to be my all time favorite pattern. I have a bolt of it waiting to be made into drapes here at our new abode..
I am loving this blog party- so thanks so much for all the work and time you took to organize it.
I hated missing Haven too. I am here in Texas so I say a bunch of us road trip it there together next year and book our rooms together- party floor. Then we can shop all the way there and all the way back.
