Maximizing Kitchen Cabinet Space {Get Organized!}

If you’ve been hanging around here lately, you know that I am a total geek when it comes to organization. It literally makes me giddy.

When we remodeled our kitchen last summer one of my favorite results of our makeover is the fact that I feel more organized and efficient than ever.

(If you missed our kitchen remodel posts, you can see them here and here.)

Of course I love the new, fresh look of our kitchen, but the organization and usability factor was also one of the ultimate goals of the remodel.  Some of that came with our new cabinet arrangement but a good portion came about from simple things I did after the contractors were gone.

Installing simple shelf dividers and stackable shelves made me love my kitchen even more.

Installing dividers and stackable shelves helps you maximize space and organization in the kitchen.

I should probably explain for my new readers that we didn’t do a complete gut of our kitchen.  We wanted to freshen it up, add some lighting and create a different appliance set-up.

Here is our kitchen before the remodel:

oak kitchen cabinets and black granite counter tops

And here is the kitchen after:

gray kitchen cabinets with calcutta marble counter tops

Besides the obvious changes of paint, counter tops, lighting and a new back splash, we lowered the microwave, added a warming drawer and put in a 36″ range to replace our old cook top and wall ovens.  Doing so required changing up our cabinets.

This one where the old microwave was located is a favorite.  There was already a small cabinet above the microwave so we just took off the old doors and had two new long ones built to fit over the old openings.

A convection microwave and warming drawer are a fantastic addition to this working cooks kitchen.

We now have this awesome storage space:

An organized cabinet keeps pans and cookie sheets close at hand.

The top shelf is high so I only put things I don’t use every day up there.  But, what I really want to show you is the space where the old microwave used to sit.

This is where I installed some wire dividers and simple stackable shelves to maximize this tall space.

Before the remodel, my pans were in a low cabinet all stacked on top of one another.  I didn’t have a space that was roomy enough to install dividers like these.

shelf dividers for pans make organization a breeze

They were so easy to install, in fact, I did it myself!

I adore, adore, adore having my pans like this.  I have been dreaming about it for YEARS.  Seriously!

The shelves are also dreamy.  They really helped me customize this area to fit my needs.

Wire rack risers/shelves make it easy to take advantage of vertical space in tall cabinets for organized storage.

Things are not only easy to see, but they are easy to reach and put away.

Using dividers and shelves are perfect for cabinets that have vertical height.

Using store-bought organizers enabled me to customize a solution that works for me, while not paying a custom cabinet maker price.

I’ll be sharing more of my new cabinets soon.

      Hi Dorothy,
I have two new drawers beneath my warming drawer where I keep my pots and pans. I’ll be showing those and my other new drawers soon. 🙂

I need one!! Much better than bending down and crashing about in a drawer to find the baking tray you want!!!! Was just looking at your organised pantry. Having riser shelves for canned goods is great. I have one and it is great – you can see what you have in stock.
Hope your Superbowl party was fun!
