This & That {Birthdays, Flowers, My Front Door and an App}

I’m breathing a bit of a sigh of relief today.

Last week was so busy and crazy I hardly knew if I was coming or going.

My youngest turned 10 which meant lots of special treatment and therefore, a lot to do!

Her birthday fell on a school day so we took her to her favorite restaurant for dinner that evening.  Then, on Friday night she had a birthday party at home with 7 of her closest girlfriends.

I’m just going to say this:  Girls are noisy!

She has sweet, wonderful friends and I’m so thankful for them.  But, man, girls know how to shriek and scream when they get together!

As you know, it was Valentine’s Day yesterday.

Hubby and I don’t usually do a whole lot to celebrate the occasion…we send each other an e-card and he always gives me flowers from Costco.

They don’t come in a vase so you have to arrange them yourself.

While I was picking out the perfect vase to put them in I wondered if other women mind getting their flowers from a place like Costco.

I don’t mind at all.  In fact, I think I prefer it.

Their flowers are always so fresh and lovely and I actually enjoy arranging them myself.

I adore this arrangement I received this year.  It is just so happy I can hardly stand it!

I realized today that I hadn’t shown you my front door decorated for Valentine’s Day.

Here it is…better late than never I suppose!

It’s extremely similar to what I did two years ago so I guess I felt like there wasn’t much new to share.  But, then I realized that I have a lot more readers than I did back then, so why not share it anyway?!

In case you’re wondering, I bought the little metal heart at a local shop  (no DIY on this one).  I think it’s just perfect for the outdoors.

Finally, if you follow me on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) I’ve been posting about a very cool new app called bHome.

Lilacs & Longhorns on the bHome app

It is a fantastic home and garden community that enables you to browse many of your favorite blogs and magazines. You can read, tweet, pin, chat and much more on the app.  It’s currently available for iPhone and iPad and an Android version is in the works.

I am very excited to be a part of the app, so I hope you’ll download it from the app store and then tell me what you think!

I wouldn’t mind flowers from Costco (or Sam’s, our closest equivalent) or even Walmart. The price is increased dramatically at a flower shop for Valentine’s Day and to be honest, I’d rather get 3 or 4 bouquets on “regular” days throughout the year than one bouquet on one day a year.
While we don’t go overboard on Valentine’s, we did get engaged on Valentine’s so hubby tries to make it special every year in some way.

Nice post, I got a orchid from our Wegmans . It’s the thought that counts. I am a bit jealous that you have greenery on your door. My door has 4 ft of snow in front of it.

If it makes you feel any better, Ellie, my greenery isn’t real! Having grown up in the north, I remember those days of several feet of snow! Just remember spring comes every year no matter what! Hang in there!

If any woman minds getting flowers from Costco from her husband, she should stop and think a minute and be thankful she has a husband do do anything.

My husband died 10 years ago and I miss him every day. He wouldn’t even have to buy me flowers if he was still here.

So give yours an extra hug and cherish him.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Jo. What great perspective you share. When we have our spouses with us it’s easy to gripe and grumble about silly things when all that really matters is that we have them in our lives. Thank you for sharing and the great reminder to be thankful for every little thing!
      Hugs to you!

I think your flowers are very pretty, Julie! We don’t do much for Valentine’s Day, either, it has just gotten too commercialized. I make cards, so my hubby always gets a special one, and he gets me flowers. He usually gets the flowers from Trader Joe’s, because he know how much I like their flowers and how fresh they always are. I love arranging flowers and have pretty vases just waiting for those special bouquets!

I love flowers from anywhere…Costco…Trader Joe’s….and your roses are gorgeous…I love that color!…Happy Birthday to your daughter….I have been used to boys hanging around the house as my son was growing up…and now I know exactly what you mean about the “girls”….when my granddaughter invites a friend over to our house the shrieks can be deafening at times…but they are shrieks of joy and laughter..so that said it is all good and I am sure you thought the same thing!….Enjoy every shriek!!…they grow up so quickly!

I always buy my flowers from the supermarket. Your roses are beautiful…love the way they look in the white pitcher!
