Just off the kitchen is our 4th bedroom. We still refer to it as “the play room” but more accurately, it is our “everything” room.
It was a baby nursery, a kid’s play room, an exercise room and a homework/blogging space. The closet holds craft supplies, extra blankets and pillows as well as a few bolts of decorator fabric. It is currently a crazy mess as I sift through everything trying to whittle down what stays and what goes as we transform the space in to a “grown-up” space.
Because our house is so open, we want a room where Mr. Longhorn and I can go when the kids have friends over and we can just hide away to watch tv, listen to music, read or book or just “be.” It’s a space designed for us “grown-ups.”
Of course, we will let the kids enjoy the space too but it’s meant to be a little getaway where there are no cartoons, no video games and no “kid stuff” left all over the floor.
The kids will get full run of the media/game room upstairs while hubby and I have a grown-up time out. Above are my ideas so far. I am having so much fun figuring out how to make it a comfy space just for us and we are both looking forward to the day we can prop our feet up and relax in our new place for grown-ups!

Perfection! Can you please give me the details on the paisley fabric? I love it!
Hi Rebecca, The paisley fabric is from Online Fabric Store. Here is a direct link: https://www.onlinefabricstore.net/portfolio-mandha-indigo-fabric-.htm
Looks like a great plan Julie…love everything that you have chosen!
I’m interested to see how this turns out. We did the same thing with our rarely used guest room. We chose to put a sleeper sofa in there so that we can use it for guests, but most of the time it’s our (or my) grown-up living room.
This is going to be a gorgeous room, Julie!!! LOVE the colors.
Thank you, Yvonne! Looking forward to getting this project done! 🙂
